The sickness absence policy pays out to schools a daily benefit based on a person’s absence not
the cost of
providing cover for that absence - if you can get it. The daily benefit can be varied by
each school as can the
excess period prior to being able to make a claim.
For teachers the daily benefit is usually between £135 to £250 per day and excess periods can be
0,1,2,3,5,10,15,20
and 30 days – again each school makes their own choice.
The SAS policy can include all non-teaching staff engaged by a school with again the daily benefit
being paid on a
person’s absence allowing the school maximum flexibility in deciding how best to
cover for each particular absence.
